The Descendents
Andrew and Maria Murray of Graaff-Reinet had 16 children and 108 grandchildren. Nine of the children and 62 of the grandchildren had offspring. Their progeny has now grown to what is estimated to be well over 5000, of whom probably more than 4000 are still alive. The descendents span 8 generations and are grouped into the nine “branches” of the family. The names and some basic genealogical information of most of these family members are recorded in the Family Register.

Many of the descendents are well known for the notable contributions they made to the South African society and further afield. Of these, the second son, Dr Andrew Murray, of Wellington, near Cape Town, is probably the best known.
